At Clevedon we place great importance and emphasis on our junior players - after all they are the future of our club.

The cornerstone of our junior section is the junior coaching programme which provides a full range of playing opportunities for youngsters between the ages of 4-17. Once a junior reaches the required standard of play (and maturity) they are identified as a 'Star Junior' and invited to join in with senior club play. Many of our juniors are very competent tennis players and it is not uncommon for some of these juniors to be selected to play in senior league teams.

The junior coaching programme is run by our Director of Coaching, Paul Maggs, who joined the club in January 2008. Paul is an exceptional tennis coach whose colourful CV includes playing in the main draw at the Wimbledon Championship. Paul works closely with the junior co-ordinator, James Bassett and together they are successfully developing and promoting the junior section at Clevedon LTC. Paul and James have close links and maintain constant contact with the LTA, which enables them to offer up to date programmes with the full support and recognition of the LTA. It is Paul's and James' vision to have a 'front runner' junior section which will be the envy of all surrounding clubs!

Junior coaching takes place on Saturday mornings. If you are interested on being coached at CLTC, please contact Paul Maggs, or download and complete an application form.

This year the junior section will be appointing a Junior Captain for the first time and for the year 2008 your Captain will be James Kelly. James' role as Captain will be for juniors to approach him with ideas for the club which can range from social events and tournaments to general well being within the club. James was selected for this role based on his maturity, enthusiasm, behaviour, commitment and is an ideal role model for our thriving junior section.
Clevedon participate in the Avon Summer and Winter League fixtures and with the high level of play the junior section also participate in the National Junior Club Leagues. As junior players progress there is the opportunity for them to play competitive tennis in all age groups within these leagues matches.

Declan Moran recently came runner-up in a regional Super Grand Prix Orange Ball event held at Bath University. Sam Hedges recently played in his first orange ball event at the Avon County Headquarters, Coombe Dingle, Bristol, finishing a credible sixth out of 16 competitors. Well done to the U18, U16 and U14 mixed teams for winning their respective divisions in the Junior Winter League.

Good Luck for the Summer and National Junior Club Leagues.

Nathan joined the club in Summer 2007 and although not a member for long, he made a massive impact on the junior section not just for his match skills and coaching abilities, but also his presence and the relationships he developed with the juniors.

He played both at the club and external club tournaments with his mentor and friend James Bassett - at Burnham, the last tournament they played together, they narrowly missed out on the men's doubles title. Within the club James and Nathan were set to become a formidable team. Sadly, Nathan died in car accident on his way to tennis training at David Lloyd in November 2007. Nathan has left a lasting memory with members of the club, and those who knew him still cannot believe he will not be turning up to play or coach. As a tribute to Nathan the club will hold an annual Tournament in his memory.

Nathan made an immediate impression and left a lasting memory.
